Personal Background:
David Arky
Age: N/A
He studied photography at the Art Center College of Design and Rochester Institute of Technology. He now shares his passion with students at the International Center for Photography, where he has taught since 2001. When not working, he finds other inspiration in Brooklyn, from his wife and two kids. He’s well known not only for how striking and innovative his still life, conceptual and x-ray photography is, but also for his understanding of how the images will be used.
Style: David has many different styles of photos. From Still life's to x-rays, his work is amazing. He's got unique food and drink photos that i have never seen before. His stop motion videos/photos are so cool and I've never seen anyone have photos like that. He has a wide variety of styles of photos.
Philosophy: To him, photography is a calling, but also a business. He’s seen photography as a kind of visual language, crafted in specific ways to solve specific challenges. He’s well known not only for how striking and innovative his conceptual, still life and x-ray photography is, but also for his understanding of how the images will be used. It’s what makes him an ideal fit for advertising and editorial clients as varied as AT&T and AARP, Fresca and Forbes. David is trying to say many things within his images, like emotions and actions.
Influences: I like David's variety of photos and they have influenced me to expand my photos themes. His still life's really look like the name. His food photos are very unique and some are very difficult to remake. I don't get how he can make a photo with juice coming out of the actual fruit and make it look not photoshopped. When i take more photos, i will think about the variety that David uses.

DREW: Yogurt Cup
For my photo, i had barely any yogurt left, but i made it work. This photo is something that i eat like once a week. I had a bit of trouble with making the background white while keeping the same cup shape. |

DREW: Mustard Explosion
I dont get how David can make these photos look so good. I tried very hard to match his, but mine looks not nearly as good as his. The mustard on his is perfect. |
ARKY: N/A DREW: White Pasta
This one is very bad. I didn't have any background at my house that was white, so i tried to color in the background but then it just cuts off some of the pasta. My pasta is not nearly as yellow as his and i was shocked when i went into my pantry and didn't have elbow pasta! When people think of pasta, they think of elbow pasta.

My photos are a good example of why people should never criticize photographers. These simple images that people think they can easily recreate are just not easy at all. I spent a while trying to male these photos work, but they look like a 5 year old's drawing compared to a Picasso Painting. I think this assignment really challenged me, but I still tried to make the best out of it. I like these kinds of assignments but next time I should move away from food photography because you can see how that went!
