Photographers Report
Henry Hargreaves
Born in 1979
Personal Background: Henry grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand. He studied from pre-school all the way to University there. Photography was always a hobby but he never studied it. He worked in fashion in the early 2000s. He also worked in the food business before becoming a photographer.
Style: Henry likes to use food in his art. He likes to make still lifes with that food. He has a very unique style of art and he makes multiple in a certain style. He works with others on some of his projects. He says it blurs the lines of art when you work with others.
Philosophy: When he began working in fashion in the early 2000’s he wanted to be the guy calling the shots behind the camera. He literally went out and brought a camera and began to play and see if he could get it to take nice pictures. There are a lot of lighting techniques and tricks he picked up and a sense of balance within a composition through being a high fashion model. He creates visuals that appeal to him. He likes to work with other people because it puts different perspectives into one piece of art.
Influences: My favorite of his styles are the fruit kaleidoscope. With that one, he has fruit slices and he flips the image 4 times to make it look like a kaleidoscope. I like how he makes still life arts with fruit because fruit is very unique and they all can look different. His mushroom bombs are very cool and it would take a very long time for someone to recreate it. Lastly his condiment shapes are very cool and takes real patience to pull off.
Part 2
Infinity CondimentsArtist Statement: This illusion goes on forever and no one knows where it stops or starts. The smell from the infinite loop is taking people down like flies. The ranch and Sriracha are causing a nuclear eruption. The one that lasts the longest will be the ultimate wing dipping sauce. Sriracha is dominating, but Ranch comes in for the win! |
Condiment Illusions
Compare and Contrast: This was very hard to recreate. Going into it, I was thinking that it was going to be a walk in the park but after I had a completely different mindset. I actually had to do this twice because I took it outside to take the picture, but the wind blew it off the table and I restarted. |
The Final MealArtist Statement: The inmate is on his final day at Death Row. He is asked for his last meal and he says he wants some BBQ. The guards decide to mess with him and feed him a dollop of BBQ sauce. He goes on a rant and doesn't even eat his final meal before he is executed. The man went out without a full stomach. |
No SecondsCompare and Contrast: Shockingly, this one was very hard. I searched for 10 minutes looking for a plate set with a big plate and a small plate, but I couldn't find it. The BBQ sauce was the closest looking thing I had to an olive. |
The After PartyArtist Statement: The lady is getting back from her ball and she sets everything down on the table. She pours herself a glass of white wine to help put herself to sleep. The pearls and sunglasses are no longer needed for her tonight. She ends up falling asleep on the couch before she even takes a sip of the wine. The next morning, she wakes up and her wine is mysteriously gone... |
Cocktails Of Film Literature & T.V.Compare and Contrast: When you don't have a white background in your house it can be very hard to recreate a photo. If the eraser tool in photo-shop wasn't a thing, I couldn't recreate it. I also don't get how he gets his water so perfect in the glass. |
